About
Cycling around Toten
This trip takes you around the northern parts of Toten, primarily on calm roads and cycling paths. Expect varied surroundings ranging from cultural landscapes to forests and densely populated areas as you roll along the fields and lake. The trip passing through Gjøvik, Østre Toten and Vestre Toten, can be embarked upon from any starting point, but we recommend following the route in the clockwise direction as you can follow the "TTTR"-markings on the ground.
Practical details:
• Difficulty: Medium
• Length: Approximately 50 kilometres
• Terrain: Mainly asphalt
The route is not marked with signs, bet the ground is yearly marked with the letters "TTTR" and arrows if you follow the route in a clockwise fashion. Please be aware there is an exception by Lena school, where you should cycle straight ahead instead of cycling up to the school. (During the yearly "Toten around"-event, you would usually drop by the school to collect a stamp.) :)
Description:
From Gjøvik, follow the relatively flat road to Kapp where it’s possible to catch a breather or det something to eat. After passing through Kapp it's time to prepare for the most challenging slopes of the trip. Once you reach the top of Kapphøgda you'll be rewarded with a nice view of the surrounding landscape before rolling down to Lena. This is a small town suitable for a break or provisioning, remember to go straight past the school instead of following the arrows to the right.
Onwards from Lena set the course for Kolbu, you'll get there before long. Further on the trail remains relatively flat with some notable uphill slopes as you cross from Eastern Toten to Western Toten. A good stretch of this part runs through the woodland and once the road levels you're getting close to Reinsvoll sporting a mild population, fields, farms and meadows.
From Reinsvoll the path continues towards Northwards to Raufoss, following paved walking and cycling paths. With a minimum of notable slopes, you will probably reach the small industrial town with relative ease. In addition to serving as a natural point for a break, Raufoss is also one of the train stations of Gjøvikbanen between Gjøvik and Oslo.
If you are getting tired there's no need to fret. From Raufoss to Gjøvik you will mostly cycle with a comfortable downhill path for the rest of the trip.
We wish you a great trip!
